Educational Center

North of Europaallee, the interplay between Adenauerplatz and Willy-Brandt-Park gives rise to a green cultural landscape that culminates in the new educational center. Composed of three smaller volumes, the building mediates between the contrasting urban neighborhoods and engages with each in its own unique way. Angled facades and covered entry areas create sheltered gathering spaces on a human scale.

Inside, the building is designed as a stimulating educational landscape: A central educational staircase—a wide, open staircase ensemble with skylights and seating steps—visibly connects all floors and invites exploration. The split-level design enables exceptional visual connections and short distances between the levels, which come together to form a topographical learning landscape. Carefully placed windows flood the interior with daylight and offer expansive views of the park and city.

Existing outdoor amenities are relocated to the roof: Like an amphitheater, the sloping roof surfaces, with stairs, seating areas, and green spaces, form a public rooftop landscape. The prefabricated hybrid timber structural system shortens construction time, while the atrium acts as a natural chimney, providing natural ventilation and deep daylight penetration. PV collectors and rainwater harvesting complement the sustainable concept.
